With all the great shopping and restaurants Birkdale Village has to offer, most locals are merry being there anytime of the year!
If it feels like fall and is beginning to look a lot like Christmas, you may have started, or just finished up your holiday shopping in Birkdale Village! Even though the turkeys haven’t yet been shared by Lake Norman families, Birkdale Village is in full holiday spirit. The lamp posts are decorated, holiday music is playing while shoppers gleefully walk from store to store. Some sit outside the Starbucks sipping on their mocha-choco-what-nots, some are enjoying the many restaurants located in the Village with outdoor seating, the stores are decorated, the tree is up and, did I mention the Starbucks is serving my FAVORITE holiday beverage, Peppermint Mocha! Yum!
Once the streets of Birkdale are decorated, the holiday season is made official with the lighting of the tree which is placed in the center of all the holiday activities, across from Santa’s workshop of course. Tree lighting day is filled with fun activities for the little ones, from face painting and a bouncy castle to visits from your favorite fantasy world characters, this year including Elsa, Ana & Spider-man. Once the sun goes down, the parade led by the Huntersville Police Department and the town fire engine begins. The kids get super excited to see the paraders and the local sponsors who entertain the crowd with dance routines and school marching bands by throwing sweets at the children. The ceremony, of course. does not end there. You guessed it- Santa makes his appearance in his horse drawn carriage and lights the tree, officially starting the holiday season at Birkdale Village.
Didn’t you know he spends his time at Lake Norman before heading off into Manhattan for the Thanksgiving Day Parade? He even returns afterward sitting with the children to jot down their Christmas wishes. Why do you think he’s so jolly? What is your favorite thing about Lake Norman during the holidays?
